A square jawline is generally perceived as strong and distinctly masculine, and therefore a characteristic that is desirable in men. Most females, however, seek a softer and more feminised face shape, and therefore regard an oval-shaped or v-shape face as more attractive. The square jaw reduction procedure is a safe and effective, non-invasive and non-surgical alternative for the reduction of the jawline.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Anyone who has a neuromuscular disorder, such as myasthensia gravis or lambert eaton syndrome, should not receive botox treatments. Patients who are pregnant or breast-feeding, or have active dental problems should avoid such treatments as well.
A square-shaped jaw can be attributed to the overdevelopment of masseter muscles due to excessive chewing or habitual/subconscious grinding of teeth. The masseter muscles are located along both sides of your jaw to help you masticate (chew) food. The square jaw reduction and v-shape face slimming procedures, which involve the use of botox injections, have revolutionised facial reshaping as it eliminates the risks and lengthy recovery time that surgery usually incurs. Botox works by disrupting the nerve impulses that cause the masseter muscles to contract. Hindering these nerve impulses results in the relaxation and reduction of the targeted muscles, and hence a softening of the jawline.
During consultation, do provide your doctor with any pertinent information on your medical history, pre-existing medical and health conditions, and medication and/or supplements you are currently consuming. Your doctor will review your skin condition, take you through your available options, and design a personalised course of treatment for optimal results.
During the procedure, a topical numbing cream (anaesthetic) may be applied to the area to be treated to minimise any pain or discomfort. Botox injections are then administered into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw to reduce the size. This entire procedure takes a few minutes.
The expertise of a doctor can yield highly effective results, which usually occurs in a couple of days, and may last up to 6 months. As the masseter muscles that are treated with botox relax and shrink over time, the jawline gradually becomes less pronounced and appears narrower. However, results will vary from patient to patient depending on age, skin type, health condition, and the course of treatments taken.
There is minimal or no downtime involved. There is usually no pain, but you may feel a slight dull ache in the treated area for about a week, especially while chewing food. You should abstain from massaging the facial muscles and lying down for at least 4 hours after the procedure.
