The carbon laser is a safe, comfortable and effective way of reducing skin irregularities and signs of ageing, and giving skin a healthier, younger-looking appearance. Favoured by Hollywood celebrities due to its almost instantaneous results and zero downtime, the treatment is gentle without any harshness nor abrasion. It is usually used in combination with other cosmetic procedures to achieve the best results with effective skin rejuvenation.
WHO IS IT FOR?
If excessive sun exposure, acne or aging has left your skin with wrinkles, lines, blemishes, scars, or blotches, the carbon peel is an excellent way for you to repair the damage as well as improve your skin’s appearance.
This laser involves the use of concentrated, pulsing beams of light and carbon lotion to rejuvenate the skin while improving its condition.
The carbon particles in the lotion absorbs the laser beam, and subsequently penetrates the pores thereafter. This thermal effect heats and stimulates the cells in the underlying skin layer to generate collagen, a component that is vital to the regeneration of new skin. It also generates collagen production, causing the inner walls of the pores to shrink.
This treatment repairs skin damage and treats age-related irregularities, such as acne, scars, large pores, blemishes, discolouration, pigmentation, wrinkles, stretch marks, uneven skin tone and poor skin texture, and restores and revitalises the appearance of skin.
During consultation, do provide your doctor with any pertinent information on your medical history, pre-existing medical and health conditions, and medication and/or supplements you are currently consuming. Your doctor will discuss your available options, and design a personalised course of treatment for optimal results. The procedure takes up to 25 minutes.
Carbon lotion is applied to your face, followed by focused and controlled bursts of laser beams on the areas to be treated.
The q-switched nd:yag laser is used to remove the carbon lotion.
By doing so, it removes the top thin layer of the skin as this superficial peeling effect removes excessive sebum, exfoliates the upper layer of skin and unclogs pores (thus reducing their size).
A slow delivery of the same laser system ensures that all remnants of debris, oil, dead skin cells and carbon particles (from the lotion) are removed.
The effects are immediate; you will see improvement immediately after the first session. Cystic or nodular acne will reduce, and acne growth will impede with further treatments.
You will also notice a reduction in pore size, elimination or lightening of yellowish, brownish skin discolourations, acne or tattoo pigmentation (depending on the condition you are being treated for). In addition, skin tone and texture will also improve, and your complexion will appear clearer, brighter and refreshed. Regular treatment promotes regeneration of collagen to improve elasticity of the skin. Generally, 3 sessions at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks, are required for optimal results. Subsequent treatments every 2 to 3 months is recommended to maintain the results.
There may be minor irritation and redness, which typically lasts only a few hours. There is no downtime involved, so you can resume your normal daily activities immediately after treatment.
You are encouraged to avoid direct exposure to sunlight thereafter, and wear sunscreen of at least 30 SPF when going outdoors.
