Skin that’s dull and sallow can literally drag you down. It robs the life out of your face, making you look tired, older than you actually are, and even sad at times!
People often base their impressions of you from what they read from your face. A brighter and healthier complexion will not only perk up your image, but add a spring in your step as well.
SKIN CONDITIONS
Dull skin is primarily caused by the lack of hydration and buildup of dead skin cells. Dead skin cells on the surface of your skin scatter light, causing the skin to appear dull and sallow
A host of intrinsic and extrinsic factors can lead to decreased circulatory activity. Lack of blood flow to the tissues reduces the efficiency of allowing your skin to renew and hydrate itself like before.
DULL AND TIRED SKIN CONTRIBUTING FACTORS
AGING
As we grow older, our cells become weaker. It does not regenerate, repair and hydrate as efficiently as before. As a result, signs of wear and tear (aging) become more apparent. Our metabolic rate slows down, and when vital nutrients are not delivered efficiently to where it is required, the processes critical to metabolism and development are further impaired.
SUN DAMAGE
Constant exposure to the uv rays of the sun over a prolonged period of time results in the proliferation of free radicals that causes a slowdown in cellular turnover and deprives the skin of vital moisture, and consequently, dry and dull-looking skin.
LIFESTYLE HABITS
Long hours at work, polluted and stress-filled environment, sleep deprivation, lack of exercise, poor nutrition and excess consumption of caffeine, alcohol and nicotine – these are common conditions that introduce toxins into your body as well as deplete energy from it, and gradually take its toll on your skin.
Improper skincare also contributes to the problem. Makeup like foundation is being absorbed into the dead skin cells that have accumulated on the skin surface. When this buildup is not thoroughly removed, they form a barrier over your skin that impedes hydration and oxygen absorption, leaving it looking dull and lifeless.
