Prevention of pigmentation starts from the beginning of our lives i.e. from childhood!
Ultraviolet light (UV) is the main culprit for accelerated skin ageing and pigmentation. By the time skin pigmentation appears, it is too late. The skin has already been damaged. There is simply no such thing as a “healthy” tan. The development of a tan is a sign of UV damage to the skin and is the skin’s attempt to protect itself from further harm. This natural protective mechanism of the skin is only effective up to a certain point. Repeated tanning will definitely lead to increased skin ageing and pigmentation.
Sun avoidance is the key to prevention of pigment formation. Measures include avoiding prolonged outdoor activities from 10am to 4pm, the use of protective clothing and accessories such as hats and umbrellas. Last but not least, the liberal and regular use of sunscreen.
